How to play blackjack
Aim of the Game:

Blackjack is one of the simplest games you can master as its just numbers. Your aim of the game is to get your cards closer to 21 than the dealers cards, using the rules your allowed. You have 3 main variables (rules) your allowed to use. Stand (or stick), Twist, or double down!. To start with You and the Dealer are Dealt 2 cards, 1 of the dealers cards are dealt face down so you cant see it.

You are now dealt 2 cards. so remembering that the aim of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without (busting). Busting is what happens when you take the total amount of your cards over 21. When you bust you have lost your bet or (stake) regardless whether the banker busts aswell. When busting all bets are lost.

Ok so we have 12, Qc and 2d Not great but not a lost cause.. Judging by the dealers card we can see that he has a 9. So if the dealer has an 8 or higher, we will lose the bet as he would be closer to 21.
NOTE:The dealer has to get to 17 in order to Stand ! Also the dealer must twist on 16 or less.

Our options:
1). We can stand. Which means we keep the cards we have which add upto 12 and hope the dealer busts - by twisting and going over 21.

2). We can Twist (take another card). This means that we want to hit another card less than a 10 and get closer to 21 without going over 21. If our third card (twist card) is a 10, our hand would automatically lose and bust our hand, as the 3 cards would then add upto 22. NOTE: You can twist as many times as you want in order to get as close to 21 as you can.

3). We could double down. This means that whatever your initial stake was. say we bet $10 on the hand. we would need to bet another $10 on our (twist) card. Basically If your feeling lucky and you want to increase your potential return you double down to double your bet. This strategy is mostly used when we have 10 or 11 on our starting hand hoping to pick up a nice (twist) card that takes you closer to 21 than the dealers hand.. My personal choice would not to double down on this hand, as the dealer has a strong starting card of a 9. My personal choice would be to Twist. NOTE: When doubling down you can only recieve 1 card! and no twisting is allowed after, Its a 1 shot for glory tactic so chose wisely when using this method.

Lets play out the remaining hand:

Ok so we have 12. In this situation depending on the Dealers card i would either Stick or twist. In this case against a strong Dealer card i would twist.

Our cardsDealers cards

7 clubs a great card for our situation. We now have 19 which is good position to be in. We now stand on our 19 as twisting again to hit an Ace or 2 would be suicide as the probability of drawing those cards is extreemly slim and not worth the risk.

Our cardsDealers cards

The dealer shows a 5 of spades. The dealer now has no choice but to (twist) another card as he CANNOT stand on less than 17. He has to twist on 16 or less and stands on all 17's or higher... Things are looking good.. The dealer now (twists) another card to get as close as he can to 21 without going over 21. If the dealer goes over 21 he automatically busts and we win the bet. If he twists his 3rd card and hits a card that is still less than 17 he has to continue to twist until he reaches 17 or above which is good news for us.

Our cards

Dealers cards

The dealers 3rd card was a King of diamonds which ranks as 10... 9 + 5 + 10 = 24 is 3 over the required maximum of 21 so the Dealer has bust and we win the bet. If we had bet $10 we then win $10 if we had bet $50 we win $50 as blackjack pays evens. The only exception to this is Blackjack itself. Blackjack occours when you the punter is dealt 21 with your fist 2 cards. You must be dealt an Ace and a 10 as Ace counts as 1 or 11. so 11 + 10 = 21 .. Blackjack ! and this usually pays 2-1..Bet $10 hit blackjack and you win $15 dollars.

Lets Re-cap things to remember:

  • Ace is counted as 1 or 11
  • All picture cards count as 10 e.g:- Jack - Queen- King.
  • Twist as many times as you want to get as close to 21 as possible
  • If you Double down, remember you only get 1 card
  • Dealer must Hit or (twist) on 16 or less.
  • Dealer stands on all 17's
  • And finally If you Bust you Lose !

Other things you need to know!

Push

A push occours when the Dealers cards add upto exactly the same amount as your cards. Lets say for instance if you were dealt a Jack hearts and 8 clubs. which would add upto 18. Now lets say the Dealer deals himself a 3 clubs and 5 hearts. He would have to twist, Lets say he was Dealt a King which is 10 points. The Dealer would also have 18... 3 + 5 + 10 = 18. In this instance this is known as a PUSH .. And all bets are retuned. You neither Lose or win Your bet. It is classed as a Draw. Your money is returned and you can then embark on another hand and try your luck again

Spit

Splitting occours when you are dealt 2 of the same starting cards

Cards Dealt Bet: $10

9 + 9 = 18 which is a good starting hand and you may choose to stick or (stand) your hand. The only reason the option of splitting is when the dealer has a bad starting card. e.g a 4,5, or 6, as these cards are oftern busted when the dealer has a 10 under his second starting card and twists because he has less than 17 and busts.

When you choose to split your cards you will have to pay the same again to what you initially laid out on the bet. e.g If you were staking $10 on this hand you would now need to stump up another $10 for the hand you wish to split. As you are effectivly now playing 2 hands together. so each hand would need to have a bet placed upon it.

You then play out the 2 new hands:

1st hand Bet: $102nd hand Also $10

Second card 10.. Stand on 19'ssecond card Jack.. stand on 19's

Total stake now on this hand:= $20

Providng the Dealer doesnt get higher than 19 you will win both bets. $10 + $10 = $20. So dealer will Pay you $40 back.. Your $20 staked and your $20 win. If the dealer also gets 19 he will push both hands and you start a new round of betting.

NOTE: There is no gaurantee that you will win both or either bets. The cards are random and therfore you cannot predict the outcome of any cards or any hands. The Hands listed above are purely represented as a guide on how to play the game- so tread carefully and most importantly have fun!.
